The principal economic development area in the city of Werder is the “Havel-Auen” to the north of the town which is in direct proximity to the Berlin motorway, has a rail connection to the Paris- Moscow rail line, and is home to companies with world-wide reputations. The creation of the basic conditions to make entrepreneurs feel good have been recognized in the awarding to Werder (Havel) of the Silver Distinction as the “most business friendly local authority” in 2005. During the local and regional reorganisation of Brandenburg, various municipalities and villages around Werder incorporated into the central town. Since the 26th of October 2003 Werder (Havel) and its districts of Petzow, Bliesendorf, Glindow, Plötzin, Derwitz, Kemnitz, Phöben and Töplitz have grown to cover 116 km2 and more than 23,000 inhabitants. The work force is well trained. The employed person‘s rate in Werder is 54 %, and the citizens of Werder (Havel) dispose of on average of 38,000 Euro.
